Asian Dub Foundation
Asian Dub Foundation is a unique band with a sound that combines tough jungle rhythms, dub bass lines, wild guitar, and militant high-speed rap with references to their South Asian roots. Their live shows are explosive and have earned them a reputation as one of the best live bands in the world. They have collaborated with many legendary artists like Radiohead, Sinead O’Connor, Iggy Pop, and Chuck D, and shared the stage with the likes of Rage Against The Machine, Beastie Boys, and Primal Scream.
The band formed in the early 90s from a music workshop in East London and has since established itself as an important worldwide force. They have also been involved in various educational and social campaigns, including their own education organization ADF Education (ADFED). They were one of the first bands to experiment with live film re-score, and their interpretations of films like La Haine and Battle of Algiers have been critically acclaimed.
In 2019, they reissued their Mercury Prize-nominated album Rafi’s Revenge, which received ecstatic reviews. In 2020, they released their 9th album Access Denied, which showcases their uncompromising sound and features guest spots from Greta Thunberg, 47 Soul, Ana Tijoux, and Stewart Lee. With their sonic opposition to the powers that be, Asian Dub Foundation continues to kick harder and higher than ever.
