Artists 2nd Announcement – Tribali, etnika & Brikkuni

The Festival returns on 3rd, 4th, and 5th June in the National Park, Ta’ Qali with its biggest edition ever, worthy of our 10th anniversary.

As per previous years, we do our best to improve on the past editions. The 2016 edition will see the biggest change yet! In fact, we will not hold the concerts in the Greek Theatre as per previous years. This area will now be amalgamated with the Roots Stage that will host all concerts. This also means that your entrance ticket will give you a pass to all areas of the Festival including the concerts. Thus, the Roots Stage becomes the main and biggest stage ever seen in any edition of Earth Garden. This area is bigger and louder, with 22m of stage width, hosting different styles of music such as folk, reggae, ska and world music. The Roots Stage will host all of the Festival’s concerts of both international and local acts.

As always, the décor will complement our Festival vibe and in this edition we are not holding back!

As promised, today we announce the 3 headliners that will be added to the list of 22 international and local artists performing on the Roots Stage. Here they are; Tribali, etnika and Brikkuni.

Surely, the Tribali experience culminates in all its worth, during the band’s performances, with an array of movement, colour and dynamic sounds that leave the audiences enthralled for days.

The versatility in musical genres present in their songs is a key contributor to the band’s concerts. Indeed, the spectrum of styles ranges from classical to rock, to reggae and psychedelic, allowing the band to attract audiences from all generations. Additionally, every concert is a different artistic display and experience.

These elements, together with Tribali’s efforts to leave ample space for crowd interaction during their concerts, leaves the audience feeling like they participated in making the live experience an unforgettable one, full of positive energy. This has always been the case in the much awaited performances at Earth Garden Festival and we anticipate this edition will be no different. Tribali’s concert is set for Friday 3rd June at 22:45hours.

Some 15 years ago, a small but enthusiastic group of friends on the Mediterranean island of Malta succeeded in achieving the unimaginable: to almost single-handedly revive the lost Maltese roots music genre. The band etnika was born. The unlikely, yet irresistible result was enchanting and at the same time it challenged people’s perception of their own musical identity, turning the tide toward a newly found national pride that made etnika an instant success.

Following a long hiatus in which etnika members pursued their own projects in Malta and abroad, a new idea started to form. The collective nostalgia created a need to go back to the essence of the music, forming a reduced, back-to-basics touring band with which etnika members could express a more profound sentiment and work on an almost unplugged acoustic sound, free from effects and fanfare. Expect nothing less of their concert at Earth Garden’s Roots Stage on Saturday 4th June at 19:30hours.

The year 2016 marks a decade since Brikkuni‘s inception. Weathering several line-up changes and their front man’s penchant for self-sabotage, the band’s appeal nonetheless endures.

One could argue that Brikkuni spearheaded the revival of pop music sung in the local vernacular. With two critically acclaimed albums under their belt, the 2008’s Kuntrabanda and 2012’s Trabokk, and a third in the offing, the band is showing no signs of slowing down. Anticipate a full speed (gas down) concert on Sunday at 20:00hours at the Roots Stage!

The Roots Stage will kick-off at 19:30hours on Friday and 16:00hours on Saturday and Sunday, until late.

Watch out for updates as we reveal another 3 major artists on Tuesday 12th April.
